Here are two new releases to give your week some meaning. Today’s picks from the inbox come in the shape of UK guitar trios, Strange Cages and The Boxing.
Enjoy!
Strange Cages – “Leader of a cult”
Brighton has been producing some great talent over the last few years and Strange Cages are another fine act to add to the list. “Leader of a cult” is a strong return and with hints of psychobilly and surf rock there’s as much darkness and drama as the song title suggests. Oddly hypnotic, the slightly sinister retro video adds to the mood. They’ve just started on a UK tour ahead of the release of their 6-track EP, The Cracks on June 16. Strange Cages on Facebook
The Boxing – One by One
Drawing comparisons to the likes of W.H. Lung and Eagulls, Leeds psych rock 3-piece The Boxing have just released a new single. “One by One” is “about depression and the culture of silence around it” explains frontman/guitarist Harrison Warke. On the surface it has an early 90s sound, mixing both the shoegaze and the baggy era. However, it also has a slightly unsettling guitar sound to keep it interesting. You can catch them at the Goldsounds Festival on 20 May. The Boxing on Facebook
