Seattle’s Spirit Award are prolific, if nothing else. We all know they are much more than that, though, as they’ve returned with a new single called “Mountain” on the heels of their recent album Muted Crowd. The song will be a part of the band’s forthcoming 7” vinyl Currency, to be released in partnership with indie non-profit label Share It Music. The label’s model centers around the artists and the label sharing 25% of proceeds with a charity of the artist’s choice – a wonderfully refreshing approach in such a cutthroat industry. Spirit Award has chosen to donate to Mary’s Place, an organization that provides safe, inclusive shelter and services for women, children and families on their journey out of homelessness.
“Share It’s vision of what they wanted to do for bands, people, and giving back to the community was very exciting and inspiring,” explains vocalist Daniel Lyon. “We are thrilled to be putting this out on a non-profit label, and giving 25% of sales to Mary’s Place.”
“Mountain” is yet another step forward in the evolution of Spirit Award, maintaining the band’s Pacific Northwest-inspired brand of indie/psych rock, while at the same time upping the ante on the production side with quite possibly their most impressive effort to date. A B-side will be released digitally in tandem with the upcoming vinyl release this May. For now, enjoy “Mountain” below.
