Former members of Lush, Modern English and Elastica have joined forces to create Piroshka, named after the Hungarian take on Little Red Riding Hood.
First single “Everlastingly Yours” has just been shared and sounds dreamily fresh and nostalgic.
The quartet formed in the wake of the final show on Lush’s 2015 farewell tour with Mick Conroy stepping in to fulfil bass duties on the last show of the tour in Manchester.
Joining Justin Welch on drums and Miki Berenyi, it was the impressive sound in rehearsals that laid the foundations for Piroshka. Mick knew guitarist KJ McKillop (from notable shoegaze band Moose) was available and this completed the line up.
The new single showcases the strength of each member, taking aspects of their past work with searing synths providing additional atmosphere and drama. The forthcoming album, Brickbat promises to be a rough and ready mix of politically-inspired bittersweet and euphoric pop and will be released on 15 February 2019.
They’ve just sold out a show in Lexington, London in November but have announced dates in spring next year:
