QTY (New York duo Dan Lardner and Alex Niemetz) today release their debut and you can find it both online and as a 7″ single via Dirty Hit.
The Bernard Butler-produced A-side, “Rodeo” has an energetic and vital air, with that effortlessly cool vibe of early Dandy Warhol’s. Dan’s vocals often recall Julian Casablancas and they perfectly complement the buzzy, classic glam-rock guitars beneath them.
“World Breaker” is a slower number with a beginning reminiscent of Bowie’s “Five Years”. It has piano chords at the heart of it under some well-placed growling guitar. There’s more of a presence from the vocals of Alex here providing a more male-female vibe giving it an alt-country feel in places, rather like a mash up of Magnetic Fields and Camera Obscura.
