It’s the start of another new musical week so it’s time to take a peek at what you should be listening to this week and beyond with me, Mark Sharpley. Here’s four of the best…
[hr color=”light-grey” width=”100″ border_width=”50″ ]BLACK SUBMARINE
Formed in 2008 under the former name of Black Ships, Black Submarine is the brainchild of guitarist Nick McCabe and bassist Simon Jones, who you may know better from their time in The Verve. Combined with lead singer Amelia Tucker, this is a very different sound to what McCabe and Jones made with The Verve, but is stunning nonetheless. Their new album, New Shores, is out now and should be in your music library pronto. Available from Awal Records, this is the single “Here So Rain”. www.blacksubmarine.co.uk/ | Black Submarine on iTunes
[hr color=”light-grey” width=”100″ border_width=”50″ ]JIMI GOODWIN
Former Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin hasn’t been hanging around since the band decided to take a break from recording. He is embarking on a support tour with Elbow as well as his own headlining tour in the next couple of weeks to showcase his new solo album, Odludek. Goodwin has an impressive CV with Electronic and Soulsavers with Mark Lanegan, but how many knew that the Doves were a dance act called Sub Sub before their rock music incarnation?? Odludek is available on the Heavenly Records and from the album this is “Oh! Whiskey!” | Jimi Goodwin on Facebook and iTunes.

Canadian indie rockers Tokyo Police Club are back with their fourth album titled Forcefield. Having started out playing in a basement (the classic rock band scenario…) they have grown in stature and can count appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Oh, and Desperate Housewives as well. But don’t be late picking up a copy of Forcefield this week. Available on the Mom + Pop Music label, this is the first single “Hot Tonight.” | Tokyo Police Club on Tumblr and iTunes
[hr color=”light-grey” width=”100″ border_width=”50″ ]JOHNNY CASH
The Man In Black sadly passed away in 2003 but his incredible legacy lives on in the form of a new album, Out Amongst The Stars. These are recordings made in the 1980’s but shelved before they had the chance to see the light of day. His son, John Carter Cash discovered them back in 2012 and now they are here for every fan of Johnny Cash to enjoy. Available on the Legacy Recordings label, this is the single that preceded the album, “She Used To Love Me A Lot.” http://www.johnnycash.com/ | Johnny Cash on iTunes
