If you blink, you might miss something New Zealand funk/nu-disco producer La Felix is doing. Today, he’s back with his soul-filling lounge pop single “My Kinda Love,” featuring the silky smooth vocals of Rynjae. The track is already his 8th (!!) release of 2021, and it might just be his best yet. The song focuses on the “Romeo & Juliet” stage of love – that euphoric, head-in-the-clouds feeling you get when you first realize you’re falling for someone.
“It’s a song about meeting that perfect girl,” says La Felix. “Spontaneous and unexpected love on a vacation, somewhere sunny with a nice beach.”
Unlike most millennials, music was not readily available to him on the internet, instead, Felix was a “crate digger.” He discovered his music by sifting through his mother’s huge vinyl collection. Records ranging from the Jazz and Blues eras to the Classical, Baroque, and Romantic periods captivated his creativity. Felix attributes his genre-melding melody writing to the diversity he found in those crates. La Felix now finds his inspiration from artists such as Oliver Nelson, Louis The Child, and Cosmo’s Midnight.
In the current state of the world, “My Kinda Love” is the song we all need. It goes down real easy, and you might say it’s fit for a backyard sunset happy hour on the West Coast. Keep an eye out for more new music from La Felix in the near future. For now, check out “My Kinda Love” below.
