LA indie singer/songwriter Jane., the new project moniker of Raj Jain, has released his debut single “Ingenue” — a moody indie ballad in the vein of Mac DeMarco and Beach House. The track was written during a time of complete isolation. With no other opportunities for outside stimulation recounting memories and history were my only viable reference points for his storytelling.
“It’s a song of loneliness but there’s a joy in the loneliness,” he explains. “It’s kind of about wanting to be wanted. There’s an understanding on why the antagonist’s interest is elsewhere, but I’m still craving her attention.”
Jane. considers his aesthetic a mix of dream pop and 90s brit-pop, and it should fit in quite perfectly with the 2021 festival circuit. He aims to create a timeless sound, rather than a flash in the pan that can oftentimes be fleeting. This is music that lasts, music that doesn’t pander to taste and trend, but rather is music that transcends trend.
Jane. will release his debut EP this fall. For now, check out “Ingenue” below.
