photostat imageWhen you break it down, good synth pop is like crack cocaine (note: we do not advocate the use of narcotics). When you get that first hit, your body craves more to get the same high. But synth pop isn’t a dangerous narcotic. In fact, we highly encourage the use of synth pop for reaching an “aural high.” Today, we become musical drug dealers in order to turn you on to some high quality synth pop. Your fix?  Photostat Machine.

There’s not much you need to know about these York native London/Edinburgh based gents besides they make really great music.  Yet, there is much more you must know in order to understand the power they hold. Their latest single “Do You WantLove?” featuring Raven (Released on Valentine’s Day via BandCamp) may be the most addictive single of 2013. The song itself has a very sci-fi meets video game sounding synth that guides the listener on an audio rollercoaster waiting for that next heavy pulse beat to pick up to bring them back to the top of the hill and drop them down again. The lyrics come off in a way that can only be only described as poetic imagery. “Do you WantLove?” is a less than standard pop song for those who love a classic Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, or even an Erasure sound without the excessive sap or mushiness of a classic love song. That’s highly appreciated for the single folk of the world (speaking for myself).

When exploring the catalog of Photostat Machine’s music, I noticed something huge. If you really love Photostat Machine’s music, you can pay what you want. If you don’t love it, you don’t have to pay a dime (or pence) for them! They’ve got 7 EPs and 3 LPs to choose from. Now with the growing popularity of the pay as you want scale, I may have just dealt you your newest audio drug. Just take your pick of any of their EPs or LPs and you’ll be reaching that high in no time. You can’t get any drug at these prices! (I watch Cops. That’s how I know.)
