Circa Waves release Sad Happy, an album for our times

I have found my album for the summer!  On January 10th Liverpool based band Circa Waves digitally released the Happy portion of their newest set and I was already sold.

Sad Happy covers the duality of our times combining songs of upbeat joy and a sad euphoria.  The lead single “Jacqueline” was released at the end of last year and honors single moms everywhere with a beat and chorus you can’t help but move to.  Songs like “Be Your Drug” and “Move to San Francisco” become the anthems we NEED right now while a song like “Love You More” sets our spirits free with its soaring chorus and lyrics of that overwhelming feeling of love.

Songs like “Wake Up Call” and the title track “Sad Happy” use lyrics in smart and sassy ways to speak to the duality of the tech-laden, highly anxiety-ridden society and emotionally confusing society we face every day and in every relationship.  “Sympathy” is an acoustic fave that speaks as they sing “I don‘t need the sympathy of anyone. I don‘t need the sympathy of you.“ This is a return to music that not only hits every guitar and pop beat we look for in an enjoyable album, but actually has something to say in a fun or meaningful way.

I, for one, will continue listening to this album on repeat for a good long while to come.  This album is a return to the anthems of our hot summer days and endless nights.  Embrace the Sad Happy feels of Circa Waves!

Circa Waves released Sad Happy with both Happy and Sad sections on March 13th. Look for it!
