CHVRCHES (pronounced “churches”) has unveiled a futuristic sci-fi based video for “Lies,” the next official single off their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe.
The electro-pop trio from Glasgow teamed up with director Sing J. Lee (who also directed their video for the single, “The Mother We Share”) to create their latest video. Cutting away from dimly lit shots of the trio awash in flashing lights and fog to shots of powerful men in a clandestine world pushing their virtual reality, the video is a dystopian take on the track’s theme of perception and misperception. The light effects, a perfect complement to the heavy electronic beat of the track.

CHVRCHES — Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals), Iain Cook (synthesizer, guitar, bass, backing vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers samplers, backing vocals) — was formed in 2011, when Mayberry agreed to sing on Cook and Doherty’s demos. The trio soon burst onto the scene after recording a demo of “Lies” and making it available as a free download on the Internet. The song went viral, gaining the attention and interest of fans and recording industry executives alike, and CHVRCHES was soon playing sold-out shows and opening for Depeche Mode. After signing with Glassnote Records the trio released their EP, Recover, in March 2013, followed by their first full-length album, The Bones of What You Believe, in September. Rounding out an already impressive year, the album debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard album chart and CHVRCHES was voted #5 in the BBC Sound of 2013, and #2 in the UK Blog Sound of 2013.
CHRVCHES is a band on a mission. Taking their unique fusion of electronica, post-punk and hip-hop to the US through the end of 2013, and then hitting the road with a huge UK and European tour next year, CHVRCHES is determined to show the world that the all the buzz surrounding the trio for the last year was indeed, well-deserved.
