ALBUM REVIEW: Sunset Neon – Starlight

Sunset Neon – the new moniker of talented producer & songwriter Blue Stahli – will release its debut album Starlight this Friday, December 1 via FiXT. The album boasts an explosion of nostalgia – touching on 80s New Wave, VHS culture, and even funk-influenced guitars a la Prince. Although the release is a debut, it comes off as a seasoned effort with a defined sound.

The album’s debut single “Tonight” may be the biggest departure from the rest of the tracks, taking on more of a hair-metal influence reminiscent of the Night Rider theme. Other notable tracks include “You Are the Sun,” (which will make fans of Empire of the Sun perk up their ears) “Everything,” and a cover of Prince’s #1 worldwide hit “Kiss.” Based on the visuals, it looks like Neon had a blast creating his new canvas of art.

“I’ve dreamed about doing a project like this since I first started making music, so I’m freakishly excited to create some weirdo VHS music for nostalgia-tinged drives or the result of watching too many flicks like ‘Terrorvision’ and ‘Vamp’ over and over,” he explains.

What the future holds for Sunset Neon is a mystery, but for now – we have Starlight, which will get your body moving if nothing else.
