A New Track from Ah! Kosmos

When she’s not composing for contemporary dance and theater productions, short films and performances, Başak Günak, also known as Ah! Kosmos, makes her own music. As a solo performer or accompanied by a guitaristshe has performed at several festivals in Europe and Japan and supported acts such as Sigur Rós and Jonny Greenwood’s Junun Project.

Her first release, Bastards, introduced the world to what this multi-instrumentalist sound designer can do.  Fluctuating between avant-garde and gloomy post-rock, Günak challenged genre boundaries.  Her second album will be no different. She had the chance to collaborate with artists she has long admired, creating what will no doubt be another collection of captivating soundscapes. Listeners will surely lose themselves in Günak’s enchanting world of polyrhythms and folktronica.  Jazz singer Elif Çağlar and guitarist Özgür Yılmaz make appearances on this album and Selen Ansen, one of the most important Turkish intellectuals of her generation, wrote a poem entitled “In The Dark Woods” for the release.

“Wide” is the first single off Beautiful Swamp. Özgür Yılmaz strums the guitar on this track and if you listen closely you’ll hear Günak’s vocals between the hypnotic layers.  Beautiful Swamp is slated for an October release.
