Yo! Sissy #DANCE2GETHER

organizersWho likes driving to outdoor festivals, camping, paddling in the mud, socialising with people off their face on drugs and alcohol…? Not me, and that’s why I usually avoid festivals. However, last year I gave a chance to a new multi-venue summer festival, Yo! Sissy, happening over three days in Berlin. The lineup was a well-curated 90s icons and rising stars combo. The team, lead by organisers Pansy & Scout, put lots of effort into the colourful decorations, and mostly, the public was super friendly, well-behaved and rather good-looking.

posterWhat is Yo! Sissy? It is an urban festival that focuses on representing queer bands and DJs, women and POC, i.e. the artists who make up for barely 20% of white bro festivals over the rest of the Western world. Not only will you be able to see, gathered in one festival, artists who are usually sparse tokens in other festivals, but also you will also see them live surrounded by a lovely and creatively dressed-up diverse crowd.

Last year’s highlights were Peaches, Crystal Waters, JD Samson and Christeene (whom we interviewed in the backstage shower and who’s back this year), this year’s edition is concentrated on two days and headlines Le1f, Mykki Blanco and Karin Park, plus some of Your Mom’s artists and friends including Noblesse Oblige, Electrosexual and Simonne Jones compiled on Plateau Repas’ workout mixtape to get you fit to dance for two days at Yo! Sissy on July 29 + 30 in Berlin!
