New video: Tim Gent – 1993 (The Prequel)

Tim Gent hails from Clarksville, Tennessee and has released a preview video called “1993 (The Prequel)” and if he was looking to summon up the spirit of hip-hop in that year he has nailed it here.

There’s a smooth jazzy electric piano running all the way through the track. The beats are mellow and his flow sits nicely on the track. Musically, this puts me in mind of Souls Of Mischief or The Pharcyde but his delivery is his own. No shouting, no autotune, no big hook either. This just works. As the temperature rises, it could be that those of us looking for something new to drop in the rag top or fire up the BBQ to have found just what we’re looking for.

I liked it so much I immediately went on YouTube looking for more. I wasn’t disappointed. All of it is in the same wheelhouse and I’m looking forward to Clarksville Nights LP which is out tomorrow and features this new track “This Way” which has just been shared on Soundcloud.

Adam is approximately one half of Photostat Machine. They are a synthpop duo hailing from York, England. When not working on devastatingly handsome pop tunes or writing, you can find him hunkered over a cup of coffee. He likes to smile but isn’t that fond of talking about himself in the third person. “So I’ll stop there,” he added.
