Welcome once again to another round of My Four, picking out four more essential tracks that you need to know about. So let me guide you into the music stratosphere…
Coming from Nottingham, Sleaford Mods are here this week with their new EP, Tiswas. Now for most of you who have never heard of Tiswas, it was an old Saturday morning kids TV show which launched the careers of Chris Tarrant, Lenny Henry and the adorable Sally James. Now, Sleaford Mods bring back at least the name of the programme for their new release. This EP promises to be a belter. Available on the Invada Records Label, this is the video for Tiswas. Experimental rockers Swans are next up this week with the release of their new EP, Oxygen. Taken from their 2014 album, To Be Kind, there are four different versions of “Oxygen” on here. Swans has original members, Michael Gira and Norman Westberg, involved in the project. Here’s a music quiz bonus question, Thurston Moore was one of their former members right before Sonic Youth came along. The EP is available on Young God Records. I present the full length version of, “Oxygen”. Website | Facebook
Described as a “five piece noise pop band”, Dublin’s own September Girls release their brand new EP Veneer. In January they released their debut album, and the band appeared at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. This is a girls and guitars band at its best, so if you are expecting sugary pop songs look in the other direction. Available on the Fortuna POP! label, this is the video for “Veneer”. Finally this week it’s the turn of Cristian Vogel with the release of his new album, Polyphonic Beings. Born in Santiago, Chile Vogel was in attendance at the University of Sussex where he perfected his music making skills, walking off with a degree in 20th century music. You may remember him from his time in Super Collider alongside Jamie Lidell and he was also considered to be one of founders of the No-Future collective in Brighton in the mid 1990’s. Cristian Vogel has also reworked pieces for the likes of Radiohead, Maximo Park and Chicks on Speed. Not a bad CV really. Available on the Shitkatapult Records label this is a cut taken from the album called, “How Many Grapes Went Into That Wine”. Website | Facebook | Twitter
