My Four: Four Tracks You Need to Know About 12

A very warm welcome to another week and indeed another edition of My Four, giving you the lowdown
on the artists you need to know about with myself, Mark Sharpley. So let’s begin the week with…

THE HORRORS

Hailing from Southend, The Horrors release their new album Luminous this week. Like a lot of the artists this column has covered, the album is self produced and has been described as “fun and danceable”. And anyone who has been to Southend will know that the people there are fun and danceable too. Available on the XL Recordings label, this is “So Now You Know”.  thehorrors.co.uk  | The Horrors on iTunes

GRUFF RHYS

Former Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys is back this week with his fourth solo album, American Interior. It’s the follow up to 2011’s Hotel Shampoo album, which earned Gruff the Welsh Music Prize. In the same year he joined the Manic Street Preachers at the 02 Arena in London and provided the music for Whale Trail, an iTunes game of the week no less. Released on the Turnstile label, this is the title track “American Interior”.  www.gruffrhys.com  | Gruff Rhys on iTunes

LYKKE LI

Swedish songstress Lykke Li is also releasing her new album this week which is titled I Never Learn. Not only is she is a talented musician, Lykke is also one of the faces of  Viva Model Management agency. She’s starring in the forthcoming Swedish crime film, Tommy. Just don’t call her a “pop princess” though. Available on her own LL label, this is the single “No Rest For The Wicked”.  www.lykkeli.com | Lykke Li on iTunes

THE ICYPOLES

And finally this week, it’s Melbourne based four piece The Icypoles and the release of their debut album My World Was Made For You. They have been around since 2009 and this album is raw and organic as you like. They are big fans of Twin Peaks as well. Available on the Highline label, this is “Tarara”.  www.theicypoles.com  | The Icypoles on Bandcamp

And thats it for another week, join me again next time as we try to strike some musical gold. Keep on keeping on

  • I don’t like this Mark Shapely guy, he is a racist, a facist and eats poo every tuesday for supper. also his taste in music is backdated about 50 years. I thought he might be a old man or something :/
