The last several years, anyone who is paying attention to society has noticed a campaign against bullying. In its wake, bullying has claimed countless lives through suicide and homicide. Such names as Cyndi Lauper have started campaigns addressing the issue. It’s time to add another name to the list of those speaking out.
Indie grunge pop band Ferris and the Wheels is tackling the issue of bullying head on in their new video for the song “Can’t By Yourself”. The video portrays three middle school kids who realize they share a common rival. As these three realize they are all being bullied by the same guy, they hatch a plan for retribution. In the end, the video has you on the edge of your seat, excited to see revenge enacted.
The video is paired with a song which explores victory over tragedy. The song relays a story of misery and loneliness, and overcoming these feelings with the help of another person, and their advice. The song is a positive reminder to keep fighting and moving forward, while the video reminds us that we are only alone until we realize that we are not the only person who is. The quote, “A common enemy brings together the oldest of foes” applies to this feel-good song and video.
The single is from Ferris and the Wheels’ debut album Hollow which has been quantified as both dark and inspirational. Ferris & the Wheels Hollow EP can be purchased at: http://www.cdbaby.com/m/cd/ferristhewheels[hr color=”light-grey” width=”100″ border_width=”50″ ]
